Haiti Earthquake – Why?
The Story Nobody Has Told You!
Jack Nicholson uttered this famous line in A Few Good Men: “You can’t handle the truth!” Only about 1/100 of one per cent of Christians can handle the whole truth about Haiti and the disastrous earthquake there.
We will give you part of the truth, and pray that many will have their eyes and ears opened to understand the truth of which so few are aware. We thank our Father that the Holy Spirit will guide believers into the truth (John 16:13).
I must begin by saying that for many years I pastored French-speaking congregations in Europe and Quebec, of which some were Haitians. My assistant pastor in Quebec City had been pastor of a church in Haiti. I stopped in Haiti on a ministry trip to Martinique and Guadeloupe in 1987. I have a special affection for the French-speaking peoples in the Caribbean islands. They speak beautiful French (I don’t yet understand much Creole) and tend to have childlike attitudes.
They are lovely people. They have nevertheless been victim of a phenomenon that is naively misunderstood in most of North America.
Many Christians think curses are a non-issue in the church. They have a naďveté that is not found in Haiti.
I was giving a Bible study years ago to some family and friends when I visited my native South Carolina. The subject was curses, a subject I treat in the book, Why Doesn’t God Heal Me? My family expressed disbelief that curses could have an effect on Christians.
Amazed at their doubt, I turned to a local lady who was Haitian. I said, “Marie, have you ever heard of someone dying of a voodoo curse?” Her answer revealed that this was a common occurrence in Haiti.
Haiti knows about curses. They should, because the whole nation (if it still officially exists) is under a curse. Their constitution states that their national religion is voodoo. They have made voodoo their god, not Jesus.
Some even worship a demon who calls himself Jesus, the spirit of control, who falls under the powerful demon directly under Satan, betrayal. That brings out one of the meanings of Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:5: “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.”
While this verse mainly refers to those who claim Jesus is the Christ, some will actually say they are Jesus. That includes demons as well as people in these last days. The false Jesus is a servant of voodoo.
