Pork and More
Unclean for All Stomachs, Not Only the Jewish Kind
Across from my parents' home in South Carolina is a restaurant called "Pork n' More." They serve pig meat and meat from other animals that God calls "unclean" in the Bible.
In France, where I lived for almost five years, they eat horsemeat, frog legs and other expensive seafood delicacies. They even have a fancy word for snails, escargot, but it's not a cargo I would like to haul back from the grocery store. Why?
The reason is simple: I discovered forty years ago that God meant what He said in His Word.
Who should know better what our body needs to stay in good health than the One who made us? Although, thankfully, some Christians are beginning to teach the Biblical food laws, most Christians today believe those laws are Jewish and we put ourselves “under the law” if we observe them.
Is the body of a Jew different from the body of another human being? Did God make Jewish stomachs from a different mold?
The food laws of Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 are not spiritual or moral laws. They are simply laws of health.
We are not to eat the meat of animals unless they part the hoof and chew their cud. In the case of fish, they must have fins and scales. This is the way God separated the animals that properly digest their food and provide clean meat for mankind from those who are the scavengers or walking, swimming garbage cans of the natural world.
In many scientific domains, men are beginning to catch up with God and the Bible. Unfortunately, this has not been fully achieved in the nutritional realm. There are, however, some interesting facts that explain God’s health laws.
Studies have shown that the Jewish people who keep the food laws are almost completely free of certain diseases. The connection between the food laws they observe and this phenomenon is unavoidable.
One scientific journal stated that even a small amount of pork is bad for the human body. The protein in pork is almost identical to humans. To digest the pork, the body has to develop enzymes that eat away at the stomach. Doctors will tell people with heart problems not to eat pork, yet they won’t tell people to avoid it so they can prevent problems.
Another study was made recently to teach stranded seafarers how to survive on ocean fish. They concluded that the best fish to eat were those that had fins and scales. God wasn’t so stupid, after all!
It is fruitless, of course, to try to prove these things scientifically. Biochemists and nutritionists are generally like most experts in scientific matters: they refuse to believe God and the Bible unless and until science can prove what the Word says. And the studies are by no means conclusive at this point.
One Scripture that experts would agree with is Leviticus 7:23-24. Animal fat contains hormones that encourage the storing of fat and the addictive consumption of fatty foods. God had already placed a further prohibitive rating on fat when He said “All the fat is the Eternal’s” in Leviticus 3:17. [Continued ...]
